Whenever I'm abroad, I like to do at least one thing that's a little bit offbeat. Trying out a new-to-me treat, taking dance lessons or having a different kind of manicure: bring it on! So when on our most recent trip to Barcelona Marcio proposed to pay a visit to the city's quirky Cactus Gardens I was fully on board. And yes, there was another reason for my general excitement...
I mean, was it faith that I bought this little cactus printed tracksuit for Gabriel a couple of weeks before our trip, or what? :) There's just something about dressing your baby in mini adult pieces that is sooo cute, and a badass tracksuit is right at the top of my list. All kidding aside, apart from that, the Barcelona Cactus Gardens (or Mossèn Costa i Llobera Gardens) are definitely worth a visit, for lovers of green and awesome city views alike. Situated in the center of the city, and taking up a whopping 6 hectares of the Montjuïc hillside, they offer breathtaking views of the Barcelona coastline. I was told that there are about 800 different types of cacti to be spotted, which made the nerdy plant lover inside of me very happy. :) Though the park is positively huge, it's usually not flooded with tourists, which makes it a quiet & safe haven smack bang in the middle of the city. Gabriel loved to hang out here, and luckily, the amount of things to see largely compensated for the fact that he couldn't touch most of his prickly green buddies. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!
Have you visited other green oases abroad recently? Don't you love the peaceful effect they have on the bustling city life?
