From the very beginning, one of my favourite parts of sharing bits of my life on my own public platforms has been reading your heartfelt comments and thoughts. There's something about creating and being a part of a thoughtful like-minded community that always makes me feel so happy & fulfilled, and it's always been your feedback that has enriched my work more than anything else. So every time I put a new piece out there, whether it's on my favourite looks, beauty tips, adventures abroad, relationships or motherhood, my heart jumps a little, instantly looking forward to hearing your take on the subject. It's always such a thrill to see certain posts resonate the way they do, so in the spirit of saying proper goodbye to one of the best years of my life, I've made a little overview of the 10 Fashionata posts you read the most in 2017! Enjoy! :)
Needless to say this was by far the most exciting announcement of the year for me! After keeping it a secret for 3 long months, I could finally share more details on when our first baby was due, how excited our closest friends & family reacted when we told the news, and our dreamy nursery room plans (now realised!).
Since I'm always a big believer of investing in quality over quantity, I found it so much fun to explore the world of mama-to-be pieces, and select my favourite must-haves that truly make your life so much easier when you're carrying a little human. From my favourite support-wear, comfiest maternity jeans, and sophisticated heels to the best all-natural anti-stretch marks serum and hair loss preventing shampoo: it's all there!
No matter how exciting it was to be a first-time future mama, my pregnancy definitely wasn't all peaches & cream! In this piece, that I wrote right after getting through my horrible non-stop nauseous first trimester, I share my experiences of having a difficult pregnancy, and the doubts & fears that come with it - 100% from the heart. I can't tell you how much it meant to me to read all of your thoughtful comments and realise I wasn't alone in this. :)
And then, all of a sudden, our boy was there! On May 31, at exactly 9am, Gabriel Bastos was born. A sweet little nose, bright eyes, and legs so long the nurses in the hospital called him an asparagus. :) I can't believe how tiny he looks in these pictures that were taken when he was less than a week old, and how much he's grown since (and has become deliciously chubby, yay!).
More baby content, because you guys also really liked reading all about Gabriel's birth announcement. I'm sharing my tips & tricks to announce your little one to the world in a way that you'll cherish forever. Because picking out a non-cheesy colour theme, keeping it simple, adding a personal touch, and going crazy with options (lollipops! sugar hearts! chocolate beans! temporary tattoos!) do go a long way...
Before giving birth, I felt kind of lost in the pool of available baby stuff out there, but after a lot (a lot) of research and testing, I came to this list of my 5 newborn baby essentials that really make a difference during those first months of your baby's life. A superb baby sling, sleeping nest, high chair, relaxing chair, and cosy sleeping bag all have the same effect on your mini: keeping him cosy & happy, so that mama can catch up on sleep whenever she sees the chance. :)
Easily one of my favourite shoots this year was our boy's first Eiffel Tower picnic, on a sunny afternoon during Paris Fashion Week. I had been visualising it for a long time, since it seemed like the perfect way to celebrate beautiful Paris, where Marcio & I met 11 years ago. I was so happy & proud to see Gabriel take in his surroundings, and enjoy the balmy weather and typical Parisian atmosphere. Definitely one of my favourite memories so far!
And speaking of Marcio & I first meeting in Paris, I loooved reading your thoughts on my humble tips to meet The One. And for anyone who didn't get lucky in 2017: a new year is the perfect time to start dreaming and dust off your dating life, right? :)
Wisdom comes with age, and that's definitely true when it comes to your beauty routine. I've had my fair share of unfortunate make-up decisions, but now that I'm older, I've established 5 ground rules that truly changed my life for the better. Embracing your skin tone as it is? Investing in good-quality brushes? Just a few of the simple tricks that have such a major impact!
I wrote this article on how I deal with prejudice and criticism largely based on my experiences as a public figure. And though I assumed it's something we all have to deal with sooner or later, I was surprised with how much it resonated. I guess it's true that in a sense, most of us are very publicly out there these days, with social media painting pictures that aren't necessarily real and are subject to lots & lots of criticism. There are obviously many ways to overcome this and even turn criticism to your advantage, and while these 5 tips always work for me, I'm still super curious to hear yours, so don't hesitate to share them in the comments! :)
What was your favourite piece on Fashionata in 2017? Thanks so much for reading and sharing your thoughts; makes me so excited for this new year! :)
