Lily Aldridge is one of those women who always seems to look flawless. Her timeless beauty is even more captivating in real life, and if she wouldn't be so unbelievably nice she'd undoubtedly be very intimidating. :) When I had the chance to chat with her on my recent trip to Greece, to celebrate the launch of the new Michael Kors fragrance Wonderlust, she was kind enough to share her most eminent fragrance-related childhood memories with me, and her no. 1 beauty tip!
Why do you think Michael Kors chose you as the face for Wonderlust?
I honestly have no idea! I'm so honoured that he did though, because I always felt like Michael Kors really understands me as a person, with his sense of adventure, and his focus on luxury and travel.
How do you relate to the House of Michael Kors? Why do you feel the Michael Kors philosophy is so appealing to yourself and women in general?
The Michael Kors pieces feel so much like they were designed for women like me; they're comfortable, sexy, and easy to travel with, just very elegant and timeless pieces. He's such an iconic man, who has designed many iconic pieces, and he always seems to be able to come up with pieces that work for so many different women with completely different bodytypes. As such, I think the Michael Kors designs make women feel strong and sexy, and open to new adventures, which is what Wonderlust is all about.
Do you have a signature scent? Do you think it's related to scents you associate with your childhood?
I'm very much drawn towards floral scents that are a little bit spicy, like Wonderlust. This has definitely something to do with my earliest scent-related memories of using rosewater as a child. These days, I like to pass this on to my little girl; I have the habit of giving her a rosewater spray for her to pretend she's using perfume, just like her mama.
I feel like the way a woman was brought up, and the female relatives she connected with, have a huge impact on how she positions herself towards beauty later on. My mama always taught me to focus on great food, never wear synthetics, and use as much all-natural beauty products as possible. Could you tell us how your mother positioned herself towards anything beauty- or fashion-related, and how this has affected you?
My mom would always take me to the local gorcery store (that has now become WholeFoods!) and get me a carrot juice, as she was very precise about the food she gave me. I like to do the same for my daughter now, because I've always felt very blessed my mother was so attentive when it comes to eating healthy. I also think of her as one of the most beautiful women I know, and she's the one who taught me that when it comes to make-up, less is more. She also constantly underlined the importance of wearing a good sunscreen, which is still my no. 1 beauty credo. I actually wear SPF 70 everyday, even when I'm not in a super hot country like Greece, because it's so important to take care of your skin.
Stay tuned for my chat with the iconic Michael Kors himself, coming soon! XO Sofie
