I had been looking forward to my first NYFW post-baby for a looong time, so when it finally happened, it felt so good! NYC has always been one of my favourite cities in the world because A) pretzels & insane ice cream flavour combos B) an unrivalled energy that never fails to catch on and C) inspiring street style on every single corner. Jetlag hit us pretty hard this time (I didn't sleep for a second on the first night!), but nevertheless, it was such a pleasure to stroll around the streets, go to my favourite shows, meet up with sweet friends, and just take it all in. :) And though it was pretty hard to narrow it down, I've managed to round up my NYFW SS18 highlights for you guys, including my 2 favourite street style looks, 5 spotted runway trends you can already adopt right now (yes!), my no. 1 NYFW beauty look (including the 2 secrets to copy it), 2 gorgeous Summer details to look forward to, and off-the-runway down time with some of my favourite people!
Assembling cute & on trend street style looks is one of my most beloved parts of Fashion Week, and especially the NYC edition seems to spark my most creative side, because it's always so delightfully sunny. :) I love, love, love playing with volume & texture, so these 2 looks were definitely among my faves. The first one was actually my very first NYFW SS18 look, and I was so psyched to see it appear on some of my fave media, from Refinery 29 to Harper's Bazaar US and Elle UK! :) I paired a white blouse with statement sleeves and gorgeous pied-de-poule coat from Claudia Li with blue midi heels from Yuul Yie and my new favourite mustard Balenciaga bag. I finished the look with XXL Anissa Kermiche earrings.
My second selected street style look is the one I wore to the Michael Kors show, sporting a patchwork denim Claudia Li two-piece, red The Volon bag, matching patent leather Aeyde heels, and chunky Michael Kors watch. And yes, it was a little party in my head when I spotted this vintage matching ice cream truck, haha. Which look is your favourite? :)
1 / MOULIN ROUGE LACE-UP BOOTS - DIANE VON FURSTENBERG
The Moulin Rouge trend is very happening right now (who remembers this feathered number? :)), and these gorgeous maroon lace-up boots that I spotted during the Diane von Furstenberg show, make it clear it's here to stay! The style would look great for Fall too, including the combo with a structured electric blue skirt and wide sleeved striped shirt. Who's in?
2 / THE CHECKED SUIT - TIBI
I'm always in for some good old power dressing, so the current women's suit trend is right up my alley! I actually wore an amazing Tibi skirt suit to their NYFW SS18 show, paired with a simple white tee and white Morobé shoes (thanks, Harper's Bazaar UK!) - in other words, exactly how it was styled on the runway. :)
3 / POPPY ANKLE DRESSES - TIBI
Also seen on the Tibi runway were these poppy long-sleeved ankle dresses, every colour fanatic's dream. So perfect to make dreary after-Summer days a bit more cheerful, especially when paired with pastel statement earrings and ankle booties.
4 / HIGH-WAISTED SLIT SKIRTS - MICHAEL KORS
Power dressing again, but this time, the kind that takes you straight to the afterparty. :) Loved this gorgeous black ensemble on Bella Hadid so much! Slit skirts will be super happening next Summer, and nothing will stop you from already adopting them right now (NYE outfit inspo, anyone?). Throw in a tucked in sheer top and low heeled sandals, and you're 100% party ready below 15 minutes!
5 / SEQUINS & SLEEVES - MICHAEL KORS
I guess it's kind of obvious by now that statement sleeves are still going to be, eh, huge next Summer, and since they're nice & cosy, they're perfect for chilly Fall days too! This look was easily one of my favourites from the Michael Kors show, because pairing a classic blue long-sleeved shirt with matching flowy sequin pants - it just doesn't get much better than that, right?
Sies Marjan is one of the greatest more experimental designers of the moment, and I'm always looking forward to seeing his creations on the runway, including his offbeat beauty looks! So I jumped at the chance of sneaking backstage before the show, to steal some of the M.A.C experts' ideas for this particular NYFW SS18 show. As you can see, the focus was on bold red lips, created with one of my personal favourite M.A.C. lip colours, Lady Danger, that was slightly overdrawn for a more dramatic effect. I especially loved the dewy all-natural finish of the skin, that was created so effortlessly by applying this basic M.A.C. lip conditioner onto the cheekbones and eyelids. So easy!
And then there were of course the gorgeous sunny details that already had me longing for hot Summer days (kinda depressing to say in September, I know :)). The dreamy tule dresses with neon details at Delpozo will be perfect to accentuate your tan next Summer, and Rosie Assoulin's basket-bags-with-shells, well, what can I say? They're just perfection!
Finally, the best for last: NYFW always means reuniting with some of my favourite people, including our sweet friend and former Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa, and my amazing girlfriends of course!
Thanks so much for following along, and stay tuned for more NYC soon, when I'll share my latest must-visit hotspots in the Big Apple! :)
