Last week, I visited Knokke, which is a lovely beach-side town in Belgium - perfect for a relaxing and low-key weekend break.
You can’t visit Knokke without soaking up some sun by the sea and this always feels better with a cold cocktail in hand! Try the glamorous (Marilyn-themed) Monroe Beach Club where you can dress up with your girlfriends and people-watch. There are sun loungers and parasols to rent and when you need a break from sunbathing you can pick up a refreshing drink from the bar lounge area. If you prefer a more casual vibe and would like to rub shoulders with some more active people, try the Surfer’s Paradise surf club and bar.
One of my favourite places to eat was Brasa Grill, where I had the most delicious grilled lobster with fresh herbs, crispy potatoes and soft corn for lunch. The only disadvantage is that you can’t sit outside as there’s no terrace but the interior décor is gorgeously rustic. For dinner, try the elegant Bristol Brasserie, where you can order fresh seafood and excellent wines. If, like me, you have a sweet tooth, you have to visit Cremerie de la Poste – I always go here when I visit Knokke as they have the best icecream in every flavour you could possibly want and it’s reasonably priced.
I drove a Renault Twingo car which I’ve used before for a couple of city breaks as the car is compact so it’s perfect for squeezing into tight parking spaces, driving around small streets and shop-hopping! This time the car had a makeover with on-trend colours, graphic patterns and a themed interior which was so cute and really made the car feel like a personalised fashion accessory.
For accessories you can wear instead of drive, visit Sketch, which is the best boutique for designer clothing, as here you can find Valentino, Céline and the popular Kini bikinis. You can pick up the ultimate souvenir at Louis Vuitton: a classic monogrammed Neverfull Tote with ‘Knokke’ in pink script across the front. If you’re feeling a little guilty about all the shopping for yourself, you can get some great gifts such as art, accessories, chocolate or gin at The List Pop Up store. You can even find my book here!
Have you ever visited Knokke? What were your favourite places? XO Sofie
