Now that Summer Break's finally here, we're all itching to go ahead and explore new parts of the world! And while I totally agree there's nothing more soul-fulfilling than that, there's one seriously annoying part that comes with it, and it's called long flights. Since being on a plane isn't exactly my favourite thing in the world, it has taken a LOT of experimenting to finally come to a ritual that actually works for me, and has me feeling pretty good about being up in the air (among which my no. 1 flight secret for keeping me somewhat serene :)). In fact, as it turns out, getting fresh off a plane only takes 3 simple steps that don't even require a big budget! Bon voyage, everyone!
1 / HYDRATE
Staying hydrated on a plane, especially if it's a long flight, is one of the most challenging things there is. Since dry plane air is renowned for completely dehydrating you in about 0.3 seconds, resulting in a dry throat, and dito eyes & skin, I kind of have been forced to become a hydrating expert over the years. :) If you have dry skin by nature, you'll be very happy to bring a high-impact multitasking moisturiser for your skin & lips, and since real hydration starts from within, I always have a reusable water bottle with me (to fill up after the security checks, where you obviously have to get rid off large amounts of fluids), as well as a stash of coconut water (that I like to drink before the flight).
2 / REST
Another thing that obviously makes all the difference between arriving looking like you have the worst hangover of your life versus squeaky fresh is getting some good old-fashioned sleep on the plane. In fact, it's one of my favourite tricks to deal with (or prevent) a major jetlag, so I always make sure to bring an eye mask, soft foldable pillow (the amount of pretty versions out there is limited, but they exist!), my wireless headphones to drown out annoying plane noises, and my favourite magazines to doze off in peace.
3 / FRESHEN UP
And when the final hour of your flight is eventually approaching (yay!), it's time to start freshening up! Instead of lugging around a huge amount of items, I like to bring a few super effective things: my mini fan to create some extra refreshing equally spread air (much better than having that plane airco blast onto your skin for 6+ hours!), make-up wipes and non-liquid deodorant to freshen up my skin, and my favourite roll-on miniature perfume. Done & done! :)
What are your tricks to survive long flights? Anything I can add to my little ritual? I'd love to hear! :)
