There's no greater joy in life than surviving a dreary day of rain, endless traffic jams, and a fight with your mom (why today??), coming home, and making yourself a decadent cup of hot chocolate. It's just the most comforting drink on the planet, and totally essential for cuddling up on the couch with your cat to watch your favourite Holiday movies. And while there's nothing wrong with doing it the classic way (by basically mixing fresh milk with melted chocolate), it's nice to mix things up every now and then, so here are my 4 favourite recipes you HAVE to try out asap:
via Minimalist Baker 1 cup unsweetened vanilla or almond milk 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder 1.5 tbsp semi-sweet chocolate 1 tbsp raw sugar
Add milk to a saucepan over medium heat. Once milk is warm, add cocoa powder, chocolate & sugar, and whisk to combine. Continue heating, and add some more sugar, if you prefer. You can top this with raw cocoa nibs, or my fave chocolate coconut cream. |
via Imma Eat That 1 1/2 cup milk 1 cup red wine 1/3 cup dark chocolate pure coconut cream
Combine milk and chocolate in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk constantly until chocolate is melted into the milk, then pour in the red wine and heat until everything is hot. You can top this with pure coconut cream, to make it a little less rich. |
via My Name is Yeh 1 can coconut milk or 1 1/2 almond milk 3 tbs cocoa powder 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 tbs raw honey a pinch of sea salt & cayenne pepper, 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Whisk everything together, using coconut milk for hot chocolate (warm it in a saucepan over medium heat), or almond milk for a cold version. |
via Epicurious 1 cup whole milk & 1 cup heavy cream 170 grams bittersweet chocolate 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1 tsp cornstarch & 2 pinches of salt
Whisk together the cornstarch and salt, and whisk in the milk and cream until cornstarch is dissolved. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and slowly simmer it, whisking constantly, for 1 minute. Remove the pan from the heat and add the chocolate. Let it rest for a minute, then whisk the mixture until the chocolate is melted. Whisk in the cocoa and vanilla. Top with toasted marshmallows. |
