Here's a surprising fact: one of the most challenging practicalities of having a baby was finding sophisticated ways to make big announcements! In the end, both for sharing the news of my pregnancy and the gender of the baby, we decided to keep it sweet & simple - just the way I like it. But for the birth announcement I wanted something truly special that felt personal and classic, and would still feel current years from now, when our little boy will be old enough to see it for himself. It's a delicate process, but I'm so happy with how everything turned out! So if you're currently dealing with similar struggles, you can breathe easy, 'cause here are our 4 simple steps to announce your baby to the world...
1 / PICK OUT A COLOUR SCHEME (AND THINK FURTHER THAN PINK & BLUE)
Just as for the baby room, despite knowing our baby's gender in advance, we wanted to go with a gender-neutral colour scheme. A blue or pink scheme has the tendency to easily look a bit cliché - or let's just say it's a bit harder to pimp. :) So after meeting up with the amazing Sofie Deboutte we decided to go with a white colour scheme. To add a touch of luxury, the visuals and text were printed in golden foil, pressed into the thick matte paper. For me, it just doesn't get any better than that! :)
2 / SIMPLE IS SMART
The main pitfall for making any kind of announcement card is to end up translating your excitement by means of pulling out all the stops - we're talking glitter, huge fonts and neon colours. The thing with those is that - no matter how delightful they are - they actually tend to have the opposite effect, not to mention they're usually not the most stylish options. Instead, consider plain high-quality paper instead of a busy print, a small sophisticated font size, and classic shapes. Because you can totally let your creativity go crazy in other ways! (see below)
3 / ADD A PERSONAL TOUCH
As with our boy's name, we really liked the idea of including his Brazilian roots into the birth announcement, so when Sofie came up with the little golden starred Made With Love circle, referring to the Brazilian national flag, we were instantly sold! Including a fun personal detail like that made the entire design feel so much more sincere, and the temporary tattoo version came out absolutely perfect! Just make sure it looks cute apart from having a meaning, so that it still makes sense to be there for people who don't necessarily get the reference. :)
4 / GO CRAZY WITH THE TREATS!
Maybe it's because I LOVE food (and because I'm Belgian :)), but I really wanted to have options for the little treats that come with the birth announcement card. Not everyone likes every type of candy, so I was totally in for presenting our sweet friends & family with a little range to choose from: a white lollipop with a miniature card, a muslin bag with sugar hearts, and a cardboard box with chocolate filled sugar beans (or 'suikerbonen', as we say in Dutch) - with a golden one for that luxury touch again. We've had amazing feedback about this part, as people really seemed to enjoy the candy options ('cause who wouldn't, right? :)).
How did you announce your baby to the world? Any fun ideas to make it feel personal? :)
