ON HOW TO MAKE YOUR MOST CHALLENGING BODY PART YOUR BEST
As someone who firmly believes in the fact that body and mind are 1, eternally intertwined and constantly interacting with each other, it's no surprise that Michaela Aue decided to take a welcome break from her intense schedule as a PR consultant to focus on being a yoga teacher. And, as she puts it herself, because she has an overly active monkey mind that's quite challenging to deal with on a daily basis, we were very curious to hear about her tips and tricks to deal with this - being kinda familiar with that ourselves. Take it from the expert, people!
NAME: Michaela Aue
DAYTIME: co-founder of Your Space, yoga teacher, freelance pr & communications specialist
STYLE: hippie with a sporty edge
SECRET OBSESSION: crystals and cacti, always and forever
INSTAGRAM CRUSH: @thegoodquote - we all need more positive vibrations
FEELGOOD FOOD: protein pancakes with almond butter and raspberries on top; my part-time roomie Amanda, who's a nutritionist, taught me how to make them, YUM!!
FAVE BODYPART: there's nothing I dislike more than my abs workout, but I love how my stomach looks afterwards
BEAUTY MANTRA: love yourself, including all your flaws and imperfections, because they actually make you pretty perfect
FEEL YOUR BEST: when I'm out in nature with my friends, or having hour-long conversations about love and life
NO. 1 PRODUCT: coconut oil, I literally use it for everything: oil pulling, body lotion, hair lotion, in my morning coffee,...
FAVE INDULGENCE: my morning ritual of drinking hot lemon, meditating for 10-15 minutes, and having that first cup of coffee; and chocolate!
THE CHALLENGE: AN OVERLY ACTIVE MONKEY MIND
WHAT'S WHAT? I really have what I call an overly active monkey mind; it basically never stops chatting, telling me lies about how I am not good enough at my job, not beautiful enough to find the perfect guy, and many other annoying things that are all rooted in a fear-based lifestyle
HOW TO DEAL
1 / SILENCE
Meditation helps me to become aware of the present moment and to distinguish between what the monkey is telling me and what my heart really feels.
2 / WORK OUT
This basically has the same effect; it helps me stay present.
3 / SMILE
I make sure to surround myself with people I love and care about, and to not take my life too seriously. That's the main reason why we created Your Space; to offer a place of silence where people can find inspiration, share their wisdom and learn whatever they have to learn to come back to their authentic selves. And until we find out, we just eat chocolate and have a great time together!
Thanks so much, Michaela, for making us feel better about our own monkey brains!
