One of the things that surprised me when I first started working in the fashion industry is the amount of collections that's produced throughout the year. It just doesn't end! In between the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer collections there are the pre-season collections, Haute Couture and - among my personal faves - the Cruise collections. These last ones, presented during the past couple of weeks, tend to be C.R.A.Z.Y. good, as the biggest fashion Houses in the world pull out all the stops to wow the crowds with mind blowing locations and dreamy fashion (remember Louis Vuitton CC17 in Rio last year??), and this year was no exception. From Chanel's Greek goddesses in Paris to Dior's Wild Wild West show in the LA desert: it's been real. And here's the really great news: if you'd like to be ahead of the trends and wear your favourite dresses according to the spotted Cruise 2018 runway trends, you totally can!
Layering a sheer maxi dress on top of denim trousers or flashy leggings is one of this year's biggest trends, and according to Louis Vuitton, it's here to stay. With a pair of smooth leggings in Nicolas Ghesquière's signature colour (we saw the same gorgeous electric blue in the FW17 and SS17 collections!) and a punchy top plus sheer black-trimmed asymmetrical maxi dress on top, this edgy look is surprisingly easy to adopt. Definitely one of my favourite Cruise 2018 looks!
Apart from their super cute beauty look we wouldn't mind getting our hands on the Chanel Greek goddesses' dresses either! This floor-length draped one looks sleek & sophisticated, and pretty damn comfy. I particularly love the idea of adopting this style with lots of layered necklaces and all-white accessories - perfect for strolling around in the warm evening sun.
There's nothing more summery than a crisp short shirt dress (can you already picture yourself exploring the French Rivièra in it?), and Prada put an original spin on it by pairing it with knee-high socks and pointy heels. Very naughty schoolgirl, but still 100% sophisticated. And yes, the socks-in-heels trend is here to stay, so why not embrace it?
Ethnic inspired prints are always high on my wish list (loved this short embroidered dress that I wore during NYFW last year!), and of course Dior went all the way, with long belted dresses with leafy prints in earthy colours, matching hats and simple sandals. If you'd like to adopt this style, don't be scared to add a pop of colour to make your masculine sandals look a bit more fresh!
While I'm definitely not opposed to flowy maxi dresses, I can't wait to fit into the more structured version, as spotted on the Chanel runway! The tied straps give this dress a playful touch, and the lace-up sandals add a bit of sexy. Don't forget to pair it with an Ancient Greece-inspired bucket bag, 'cause if you know your classics, you gotta show it.
Which one if your fave? Anything that you can't wait to try? I can't wait to stroll around in draped maxi dresses and strappy structred dresses post-baby! :)
