No matter how much I love the creativity displayed on the Fashion Week runways, I'll be the first to admit that runway looks aren't always, eh, wearable in everyday life. A blissful exception? Denim! Even after being reinvented a gazillion times, denim has got this unmistakable casual/cool vibe that makes it versatile and wearable, for every imaginable occasion. We might have to wait until Fall before we can get our hands on (most of) the pieces that are presented on the runways right now, but there's nothing that can stop us from already applying the most genius styling tricks to our personal denim collections. Here are my favourite ways to do denim, fresh off the runway!
I've been a big fan of the slip dress since the very beginning, and while I love it with a simple white shirt underneath, I have to say I love this updated version from Topshop Unique even more. The contrast between the sultry/chique vibe of the satin dress and the casual denim is perfection, especially when completed with simple strappy sandals. If you'd like to keep this look entirely party-proof, go with a cropped denim jacket with 3/4 sleeves and jewelled buttons. Such a nice twist on the classic LBD!
If you're doing a line-up of the most inspiring denim trends, this gorgeous cropped Dior jumpsuit can't be overlooked. I loved the entire Navy-inspired show, including the leather berets and aviator-like sunnies simple that completed the looks.
Maybe it's because I grew up in the '90s, where an unfortunate skirt-over-pants trend made its way to my wardrobe for a period that lasted waaay too long, but it took me a while that get on board with the updated version. However, when I saw this interpretation from Tibi, featuring a sophisticated 2-in-1 piece in dark denim, I was sold! If you don't want to go all the way, you might want to start with pairing a double denim jacket with matching cropped trousers, to be completed with cream coloured booties (with a statement heels!).
I already raved about Raf Simons' first Calvin Klein collection before, so it's probably no surprise that I was totally on board with his denim pieces too. The Western vibe is definitely going to make a comeback this year, including high-collared blouses, full-length denim trousers and ... cowboy boots! Are you ready??
There's nothing like an easy matchy/matchy outfit to wear on a lazy day! Season after season, Off White had presented the yummiest denim pieces on the runway, and this FW edition was no exception. A fringed one-shoulder top and matching wide-legged trousers? Yes, please!
