FAQ

I’m so happy you’re interested in the origins and growth of FASHIONATA! Here’s a list of the most common questions I get:

WHAT BREED IS YOUR CAT?

Bobke is a male British Shorthair. I got him 5 years ago from the most amazing lady, who raised him to be the sweetest and healthiest cat you’ll ever meet. He has this adorable habit of following me around the house, waking me up every morning, and rolling on his back for you to pet his belly. Whenever we’re abroad, someone comes over to our home to be with him and take care of him (and send us little videos of his activities – sleeping and eating :)).

WHO IS YOUR HAIRDRESSER?

I've been going to L'Atelier Geraud in my hometown Antwerp for years, as I'm very picky about my hair colour (I prefer a fresh champagne blonde over a golden tone). I actually have very thin unruly hair, but they get in right every time.

HOW DO YOU CARE FOR YOUR HAIR?

I frequently try out new products, but I've been using Shu Uemura's Cleansing Oil shampoo and Ultimate Remedy Mask for a while now, and they work wonders for fragile colour treated hair. Another amazing product I often use is Kérastase Ciment Thermique, that protects my hair from heat styling.

WHEN AND HOW DID YOU START UP FASHIONATA?

I started with FASHIONATA in 2009, because I felt a little bit lost in life. I had always thought I wanted to be a professional chef, but after a tiring and eye-opening experience in the restaurant business, I suddenly wasn’t so sure this was the right path for me. So my boyfriend Marcio, who had his own software company and knew about my passion for fashion, suggested I started blogging.

WHAT DID YOU STUDY IN COLLEGE?

Just like my papa, I studied marketing in college, while taking cooking classes in the evening. Both still come in handy in my everyday life, so I’m definitely happy with those choices.

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING?

I work for FASHIONATA full-time, together with my boyfriend Marcio and our colleague Astrid, who joined us in 2016. We generate revenues through selective collaborations (on the website, Instagram, and Snapchat), my columns in various media, style guide Little Black Book, and lifestyle line SANUI. We’ve chosen not to display any advertisements on FASHIONATA, as we find that it disrupts the feel and aesthetic appearance of the site.

CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME TIPS ON HOW TO START A SUCCESSFUL BLOG?

Sure! First and foremost, it’s crucial that you love what you do, and that you take it seriously. Be dedicated and post regularly – even if you feel like no one is reading your posts. Which leads me to my next tip: be patient. It’s totally normal that you’ll have very little response for a fairly long time; don’t be afraid to stick to your beliefs and try to continue following your dreams. The rest will follow.

WHAT’S YOUR VISION CONCERNING COLLABORATING WITH BRANDS?

I’m VERY selective when it comes to collaborations, as the brands I work with have to be a complete fit and totally reflect what FASHIONATA stands for. While I’m always humbled by requests to collaborate, I effectively decline about 90% of the offers I get. As such, I can totally guarantee that we exclusively feature brands on FASHIONATA that we find truly inspiring and believe to be good for you.

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO WORK FULL-TIME WITH YOUR BOYFRIEND?

Marcio was a part of FASHIONATA from the very beginning, and his full-time engagement happened very gradually. We never had a talk about who would take care of what; it just came organically. He takes most of the pictures that appear on FASHIONATA and handles the business side, as he’s just impossible to say no to. :) The biggest challenge is to seperate work from life, which we actually don’t manage to do at all; so I guess it’s a really good thing we both totally love our work. :) In the end, he really is my best friend, and I find it a privilege to have him as my sidekick.

CAN I USE YOUR PICTURES ON MY SITE?

Of course! Just make sure to link back to FASHIONATA as all my pictures are copyrighted.
