You know how when you fix up a house, there's always this one room that's postponed to 'later'? Well, in our case that's what happened with the kitchen. After finishing up our living room (pictured here and here), bedroom, office/dressing, and little garden, we were just a little bit tired of picking out tiles and painting samples and carpet, so we just decided to let it hang for a little bit. Fast forward to 2 years later and here we are... With all the traveling we've been doing we just haven't gotten around to it, but now that I'm in total nesting mood, I can't wait to get started! So far, I've narrowed it down to these 4 gorgeous styles, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on them!
Since we bought a historic city house, our rooms aren't super spacious, so I always have my eyes open for genius tricks to save room (or to make a room look bigger). I actually really love the idea of a raised kitchen counter and stools to have breakfast, or to create a little nook with a bench and round table. So cute, right?
As much as I love the city vibe pictured above, I've always loved the idea of a countryside kitchen, including happy kids, full bellies and delicious apple pies. :) While I definitely wouldn't go full on farm kitchen in our case I could get behind fresh clean tiles on the walls, stacked shelves, and pendant lights on the ceiling!
Marble is for sure one of my favourite materials - it's just so damn sophisticated! I obviously really like classic white and grey marble (I think it's the prettiest and most practical material for kitchen countertops!), but I also love the concept of marbled paint, such as the pink wall pictured above. It's just so dreamy, perfect for creating the relaxed and cosy atmosphere everyone wants for their kitchen...
And speaking of cosy: there's no warmer material than good old-fashioned wood. I personally wouldn't go with an all-wood take on drawers and cabinets, but I do like the open shelves system for displaying my prettiest ceramics (that I've assembled on our many trips to Brazil) and glass ware.
Which style is your favourite? I'd definitely like to include marble countertops, wooden shelves, and copper pendant lights! :)
