Blessed with a fair skin tone and a Brazilian boyfriend who likes to frequently take me to his sunny hometown, I've had my fair (ha!) share of nasty sunburns. Luckily, practice makes perfect, and I dare say I'm finally in a place where I can share some fool-proof tips & tricks for tanning wisely. Because yes, even if you have a super fair sensitive skin, you can get that glowy tan that goes so well with your Summer outfits (no need to fake it!), in only 3 simple steps...
STEP 1 / SOAK & SCRUB
I'll be the first to admit that scrubbing my body is something that's somehow always last on my beauty to-do list. Like most people, I usually take a quick shower instead of a bath, and it can be so damn cold to rub your entire wet skin - no matter how great it feels after. But this Summer, I'm determined to make an effort to indulge more in at home spa days (especially since I'm expecting that I'll be in need of some extra pampering due to short nights!), including a good old soak (made better with this pure organic bath salt) and a gentle body scrub that'll clean out my pores and prep my skin for the slathering of sun protection that'll follow!
STEP 2 / PROTECT & SHINE (WHERE YOU WANT TO)
Whether you have a fair skin tone or not, it's common knowledge by now that a high SPF will protect your skin against the sun's harmful effects. But since most sun protection out there contains so many super chemical ingredients that are almost equally harmful (o the irony!), I like to invest in a good organic sunscreen, that really protects you and isn't sticky or white (it exists!). For my face, I really like something oil-free that I can use on a daily basis, and doesn't add any shine - a real bummer on hot humid days, right? Finally, to add a bit of sparkle, I follow my sun protection with my all-time favourite shimmery dry oil, specifically to make my legs look dewy & fresh (without going for a full-on wet look, obviously).
STEP 3 / REFRESH & HYDRATE
And then there's the most important part: the after-care! I'm literally obsessed with face mists (they're always in my luggage to make hot beach days more tolerable!), especially if they contain all-natural ingredients and soothing aloe vera - perfect to freshen up your skin after a full day of soaking up the sun. Finally, don't forget to hydrate your skin (especially your sensitive face) with a resurfacing mask, that will prevent your skin from producing more oils as a reaction to the hot temperatures and balance out its natural moisturising qualities.
What are your go-to tricks to get that perfect tan? Anything I should try out soon? :)
