One of the things I was most curious about before having our boy was how we were going to fit him into our hectic lifestyle. After stressing about it for way too long, I finally managed to let it go and just hope for the best - which is basically all you can do when it comes to babies. :) So for the final part of my baby Q&A as a new mama (find part I & II right here and here), I'm sharing what it has been like to be a first-time parent, including major routine changes, who our boy resembles most (can you guess?), and my no. 1 irrational parenting fear!
BABY Q&A - ON BEING A PARENT
BIGGEST ROUTINE CHANGE
Literally everything. :) Nothing about our days looks the same; the nights are shorter, the mornings earlier, and everything in between is chaos, haha. But since we were used to an irregular day-to-day structure, it's actually fine. We just try to go with the flow and figure out along the way.
DIVIDING THE PARENTING TASKS
I'd say it's a 50/50 thing (as was our goal), where Marcio mostly takes care of the night shifts, and I do the early mornings, which fits our natural habits the most (because I'm usually up by 6am anyways). And yes, he's excellent at changing diapers (is this even still a thing?).
WHO HE RESEMBLES MOST
Me of course! :) Marcio & I definitely have this thing going on where we get super competitive about which traits our boy got from either one of us, which even extends to our grandparents, who are fully supporting the passing down of their magnificent genes. In any case, he takes after Marcio in that he's very tall for his age (and has big hands & feet!). Other than that, he really is a copy of me as a baby (like, really really).
JUGGLING THAT WORK/LIFE BALANCE
As much as I'm trying not to freak out about getting zero work done on most days, it does occasionally worry me a bit. So far, I haven't found a balanced out work/life thing, but since this technically is the time when a lot of parents have maternity leave, I guess that's totally normal. Ask again in a couple of months! :)
BIGGEST CHALLENGE SO FAR
Apart from the short nights, that's definitely been arranging our days around our little monkey. It can be frustrating to have to cancel a meet-up with friends because he's feeling off, but I know it's better than facing an afternoon of outdoor meltdowns. That can honestly feel a bit limiting.
NO. 1 IRRATIONAL FEAR AS A NEW PARENT
Breaking the kid! Especially in the beginning, when he seemed so small and fragile, I literally had nightmares of dropping him or inflicting some kind of injury. O, and while I was initially also kind of nervous about Bobke's reaction, he's been so incredibly sweet! (after getting over his initial surprise) They really are best buds, it makes me so happy. :)
