Maybe it's because I lost quite a bit of weight at the beginning of my pregnancy, but I've been kind impressed with how big I've gotten over the past few weeks. :) The sheer size of my belly is a bit overwhelming, not to mention kind of impractical. It's obviously totally normal that growing a human takes up some space, but it still sometimes feels so out-of-this-world to carry this bump around. So as a way of prepping myself for the full-on whale mode that's most likely ahead I've had my eyes on styling tricks that slim down my silhouette, and here are my favourite ways so far:
1 / VERTICAL STRIPES ARE THE NO. 1 HEROES
It's a classic - and with reason: if you're looking to slim down your silhouette, vertical stripes are your no. 1 heroes. And since I can use a little extra help right now, I didn't hesitate to go all the way, with this striped By Malene Birger two-piece, that's getting extra points for being as comfy as pj's. If you're hesitant about going with stripes on stripes, opt for a classic colour combo, such as black or blue & white. And don't forget to snag it in at the waist to make the look its most flattering!
2 / POINTY FLATS COME SECOND
I've talked about the optical benefits of comfy flats before, and the list goes on, 'cause they are also masters at making your silhouette appear more slim - if you're wearing wide-legged trousers by balancing out the bottom, and if you're wearing a more fitted style by accentuating your ankles. No wonder I've been wearing these trusty slides around the clock lately.
3 / KEEP YOUR BAG SMALL & STRUCTURED
No matter how tempting it may seem to lug around a roomy shopper wherever you go, if you're looking for a bag that tricks the eye into a slimmer silhouette you want to go with a bag that's just as petite. Opt for a structured clutch with fine details, preferably in a shade that 'clashes' with your stripes, for that extra pop.
