When I was pregnant, there were a few super random things I was really looking forward to - little things, that I couldn't help but envision in my head, over and over again. Just as Marcio's beloved prospect of playing soccer with our boy for the first time, I was particularly excited to go on our first family picnic. :) It's just such a sweet family ritual, and since the weather was so balmy these past weeks, we got to do it much sooner than I anticipated. And you guys, it was the BEST thing ever, with our little bud laying happily in the grass, reaching for watermelon slices (he's got that from his mama!) and carefully inspecting the clouds. I felt extremely satisfied afterwards, and so proud of our little family. :) Since it apparently only takes a few simple steps to create the perfect family picnic, here goes!
A MULTIFUNCTIONAL STROLLER IS EVERYTHING
There are literally a gazillion stroller options out there, but I knew I had to have the Mima Xari as soon as I first saw it at Het Land van Ooit (they have such a lovely selection of baby things!). :) It has a super sleek design, with tan leather details that are durable and stylish, and it's sooo practical. I love when things that you use often have smart little tricks that make all the difference, such as triangular-shaped storage bags at the bottom (in which you can seriously stuff an army of baby accessories), a matching umbrella and cup holder. And if you want to keep an eye on your little one while he's taking a nap, you can disconnect the light upper part super easily to put it next to you. Best purchase ever!
YES, YOU'LL NEED A LARGE TOTE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE
The struggle to find a stylish diaper bag was real, so instead I opted for a large tote bag (this one, in a pretty maroon colour, is from By Malene Birger) with little individual miniature bags inside. Because yes, the amount of things you have to lug around when you're on the road with a baby is astonishing (pictured above are Gabriel's favourite La Langerie bear and Sophie La Girafe squeeze toy). It's been working really well, I must say, and I love how I can pimp it with a little printed scarf to make it totally Summer-proof. :)
ADD A BIT OF MOVIE DRAMA TO YOUR SUMMER OUTFIT
I had an embarrassingly clear vision of the outfit I wanted to wear for our first family picnic, haha. I wanted it to look roadtrip-y with a hint of Hollywood (and primarily comfy, of course!), so I opted for this breezy chiffon Designer's Remix dress, embellished Ancient Greek Sandals, Poppy Lissiman cat-eye sunnies, multi-coloured Ganni headband, and golden nails (FABY Panic on Wall Street). It made me feel so relaxed all afternoon! And speaking of relaxed: for Gabriel, I went with a little sailor onesie from Petit Bateau, and a mustard knitted cardigan and hat from My Little Cozmo.
With a newborn, there's no need to make life more complicated than it is, so bringing easy snacks, such as sliced watermelon (my favourite!) or grilled pineapple is just perfect for a blissful afternoon of absolutely nothing.
What are the family rituals you were looking forward to the most? I'd love to hear! :)
