After months of not having the right mindset to shop for tiny onesies and the softest baby lotions, I'm finally in a place where I can do all those things. I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do (my friends are basically constantly surprised by my lack of baby-related stuff, eeks!), and first on my list is a project I've been looking forward to since the very beginning: the baby room! As you guys know, I kind of have a second dressing right now (she shamefully admits). The room wasn't supposed to have that function, but you know how it goes: you stock some of your extra Winter coats in it, then a couple pair of boots you can't seem to part with, and before you know it - boom! it's another dressing. I've been postponing the clean up of this room since forever, but this week it's HAPPENING. Needless to say that I have a pretty big motivation this time around, and I can't wait to start decorating our very first nursery! Over the past couple of weeks, I've been on full baby room alert, and right now I've narrowed it down to these 4 moods:
Maybe it's because the room is such a mess right now, but I kinda like the idea of having a super practical room, with 'smart' solutions for tiny problems (how genius is that shelf/clothing rack combo??), a simple crib (I really like the idea of putting a spin on a classic crib by painting some of it in a poppy colour), and versatile nude tones. I'm pretty sure I'll end up applying at least some of these tricks, since a baby room has to be at least a minimum of practical, right?
Natural elements have always had a calming effect on me, whether it be by going back to nature, eating clean, or using all-natural beauty products. And since it's my no. 1 priority to make this room into a place where we can all feel happy and serene, I'd really love to incorporate lots of warm materials (wood, organic cotton), lots of miniature plants (and OMG, those little rain boots!), and a natural colour palette of green and rusty orange. And while I'm usually not a huge fan of wallpaper, it's definitely something I'd consider for the baby room...
I know it's probably 0% realistic to assume a clean room is going to stay that way, but it's a nice starting point, right? Just as for myself, I'm not a huge fan of super 'cutesy' baby rooms (i.e. not too much pink or blue, not too many frills and no glitter), so a clean aesthetic - which doesn't necessarily mean cold - is right up my alley! Also bookmarking: a cute pillow with a subtle embroidery of your baby's name and ultra modern lighting, for a sleek touch.
The fact that I'm leaning more towards a clean baby room doesn't mean I'm completely ruling out some of these dreamy vibes. A baby room has to be sweet and cosy - that's kind of a given. So I'll totally consider adding a cute mobile above the crib or some twinkling lights that ensure sweet dreams. It's all about balance, after all!
I'm super curious to hear which one is your fave, or if you have another one to add? I'm very much in love with the all-natural vibe! :)
