It has been unseasonably hot here in Antwerp during the past couple of weeks. And although it was perhaps a little bit too much for our little boy, I must say it made me super excited for the months ahead because A) ice cream all day every day B) those mellow warm Summer eve's (the best!) C) taking out my go-to heatwave survival outfit!! Coming up with a stylish outfit when textile seems like the no. 1 enemy is one of life's greatest challenges, so I'm not exaggerating when I say it took me a pretty long time to nail it. But after getting a LOT of practice in Brazil, I can truthfully say that I've found a combo that always works, and makes me feel breezy & put-together, no matter the outside temperatures...
1 / FOR REAL, LEAVE YOUR BODY HUGGING PIECES AT HOME
I'm always kind of astonished when I see people sporting tight body hugging pieces on super hot days; for me, that totally guarantees sweating my way through the day. Or to quote Steve Carell in Crazy, Stupid, Love: It just seals in all the heat, man. :) Instead, opt for breezy items with a loose fit and in a light colour scheme, such as a strappy top with subtle flower print (that leaves your shoulders uncovered!) and a white wrap skirt. It's definitely one of my favourite post-birth pieces, since you can adjust it effortlessly to your body, and this one from By Malene Birger offers some extra coverage by genius pleats and ruffled edges on top!
2 / PUT NEXT TO NOTHING ON YOUR FEET
For me, my feet are the parts of my body that mostly determine how overall hot I feel. :) So if heatwave survival is what I'm looking for, the less I put on my feet, the better! Flat backless slides are my go-to, preferably with sweet embellishments on top of course. Easy breezy much!
3 / THINK SOUTHERN INSPIRED ACCESSORIES
After ensuring heat-proof main pieces, it's time to add a bit of fun! And what better way to incorporate some of that delicious Summer break spirit than by adding Southern inspired accessories: a cute straw basket bag, tasseled bracelet, sunnies and golden statement earrings. 'Cause if it's too hot to dance you might as well get that flamenco vibe on in your outfit!
What's your go-to heatwave survival outfit? Any particular tips I should know? :)
