O man, the official start of Summer came in HOT this year! We've all been hanging on for dear life here in Antwerp, snacking on popsicles (and holding back the urge to rub our faces with them), and spraying our little boy with this non-stop (he seems unbothered about it, bless him). I honestly can't wait for the promised thunder to come sooner than later, because isn't it one of the most wonderful things on earth, after days of sweltering heat? No surprise that this week's round-up is all about breezy fashion and the best of Summer beauty food, with the no. 1 way to wear your skirt this season, the comeback of yet another '90s footwear trend, and what pink goodness (!) to take in to get that glowy Summer skin. Stay cool, everyone!
Since I've been kind of forced to ignore the existence of skirts during the past couple of months, I can't wait to embrace ALL of this Summer's skirt trends, with this one right at the top of my list: the apron skirt! It basically comes down to a midi-or-maxi wrap skirt that has one of this year's IT finishes - be it an old-school gingham print (so French rivièra!) or ruffled edges (so Spanish island!). Pair with a loose white linen shirt and V-shaped mules, et voilà!
Raise your hand if you were head over heels in love with your canvas T-shaped buckled Palladiums in the '90s! And here's the really awesome news: they're so back! After the prominent role of the buckle in the recently launched sold-out-in-3-seconds strappy tennis shoes by Adidas X Raf Simons, and last year's Miu Miu buckled ballerina's, it was only a matter of time before designers were going to put a spin on every tomboy girl's favourite Summer sneakers. I'm just so in for Rosie Assoulin's take (from her Resort 2018 collection, pictured above), starring a flattering platform version that adds a bit of casual to wide-legged trousers - just the way I like it.
I've been a big fan of juicing my way to better skin since day 1 (who remembers my go-to watermelon lemonade?), so I'm fully in with hopping on board with the most recent obsession in juice vs. skin land: beets! With their powerful mix of iron, potassium and vitamin C, they're so good at detoxifying and cleansing your body, to prevent annoying break-outs. And of course, it helps that you can make the most Instagram-worthy pink drinks with it. I personally like to balance out the earthy flavour of the beets with more tangy add-ins, such as pineapple, pomegranate or ginger. Yummm!
